Nail salon Sanitation

July 20th, 2011 • Posted by Penny Limperis • Permalink

First, the salon and nail technicians should both be licensed. If you do not see the certificates hanging on the wall, be sure to ask.Illinois requirements include that cleaning logs be posted in the nail area.Make sure you see a log!Chemical sterilization using Barbicide (the blue liquid) has to be used to fully disinfect the instruments.Make sure you see this! Basic hygiene is another great preventative. Ask the nail technician to wash their hands before they begin, and it is a good idea for you to do the same. One of the best tests you can give a nail salon is a simple visual inspection. Take a good look around the place when you arrive or while you are making an appointment. Does everything look clean and organized? If you are able to, observe the nail technicians working. Are they following the guidelines described above?Spa Constantine follows all the required sanitation guidelines.

New! Silk Wrap Services at Spa Constantine!

June 24th, 2011 • Posted by Penny Limperis • Permalink

Available with Virginia at the Oak Park location only.
A silk wrap consists of a synthetic silk or fiberglass material that is added to the fingernail to strengthen, lengthen or repair the nail.Silk wrap provides better flexibility, than acrylic nails. They are thinner than acrylics and look more like the natural nail. They are also healthier since the fibers allow the nail to breathe -unlike acrylic nails where fungus can form underneath.

A silk wrap nail procedure starts with cleaning the nails to be sure that all dirt is cleared away and the surface is clean. A buffer is then used on top of the nail to smooth out the nail so the wrap will properly adhere. The manicurist will cut the wraps to fit the nail and the apply adhesive to secure the wrap in place. After the application, the nails will be buffed again until the surface is smooth. Finally, a color is brushed over top of the wrap to ensure it doesn't lift up.

Think of silk wrapping procedure as going green for your nails. The silk wrapping technique is all natural and even the adhesive can be non-toxic. Harsh chemical nail treatments are a thing of the past and your nails will thank you for this newer, gentler procedure.

Spa Constantine Receives 2009 Best of Spa Award

U.S. Commerce Association’s Award Plaque Honors the Achievement

WASHINGTON D.C., June 8, 2009 -- Spa Constantine  has been selected for the 2009 Best of Spa Award in the Spas category by the U.S. Commerce Association (USCA).

The USCA "Best of Local Business" Award Program recognizes outstanding local businesses throughout the country. Each year, the USCA identifies companies that they believe have achieved exceptional marketing success in their local community and business category. These are local companies that enhance the positive image of small business through service to their customers and community.

Various sources of information were gathered and analyzed to choose the winners in each category. The 2009 USCA Award Program focused on quality, not quantity. Winners are determined based on the information gathered both internally by the USCA and data provided by third parties.

About U.S. Commerce Association (USCA)

IN THE BURBS: FRIENDS -- Spa days pamper, bond friends

How better to spend a day relaxing and unwinding than in the company of friends. Once seen as a solitary activity, spa visits have gained popularity as a sure bet for mellow and quality time amongst pals, as many west suburban destinations now offer packages catered toward groups.

“I never went to a spa until right before I got married,” says Anastasia Tsatsakis, manager at Spa Constantine, which has locations in Downers Grove and Oak Park. “I wish for the life of me that I did it before then, because now I realize the benefits of relaxation and unwinding. Also, it’s nice to be able to treat myself and my friends to massages so they can relax and pamper themselves.”

Long a favorite of bachelorette parties, friends’ trips to the spa are seeing increasing mainstream and cross-gender appeal. “We get friends that come in at least a couple times a week,” Tsatsakis says. “We have groups of friends coming in to celebrate college graduation, birthdays, engagements, weddings, milestones, and we even have people that come in to celebrate pregnancies.”

Downers Grove resident Julie Smrz likes to share spa time with friends. “I usually get the large packages that don’t expire, and I can share them with my friends and family,” she says. “I recently purchased a gift certificate for my friend’s birthday, and I also have gotten one of my friends a manicure and pedicure before their bridal shower.”

The spa isn’t just for women either. Tsatsakis says they encourage men to indulge too with their “guys day in” specials. “People always return to the spa, but they bring their friends back with them because it is an awesome experience,” Tsatsakis says.

Fit For a Queen (and a King)

Spa Constantine, in the western suburbs give patrons the royal treatment.

September 10, 2007

By Erin Calandriello STAFF WRITER

Every woman -- and man for that matter -- has something in common with the famous queen. They might not have a crown, but they do.Legend has it the Egyptian Queen Cleopatra VII's feet were doused in oils and her back was rubbed by gentle hands enjoying luxurious relaxing treatments.

Whether you're a stressed-out husband or a nervous bride-to-be, the Western suburbs have some  spa gems along it to relax one's nerves and ease one's mind. Here's a looks at one of them.

Spa Constantine-A 'pampering' place

If you're up for ornate decor based on 19th-century European art and a cup of tea while listening to soothing music and inhaling the sweet smell of lavender and eucalyptus, try Spa Constantine in Downers Grove at 5333 Main Street, or Oak Park at 136 North Marion.

Frank Limperis, Spa Constantine's owner, said he's in the spa business because, "I love seeing people feel relaxed." But his isn't any spa -- it has a European touch. From the furniture to its beauty technicians, it's 100 percent European, Limperis said. He was born and raised in Greece and came to the United States in 1998. He has opened Spa Constantine's over the past five years in two locations --  Downers Grove and Oak Park.

He says treating oneself to spa treatment is deserved in today's society. "We're living in 2007 and everybody works a lot. There's a lot of stress in our lives. People have too many jobs and are facing too much pressure. They have to take their kids everywhere," said Limperis. "To spend $70 on your body to feel good is well worth it."

The spa offers several services to take a break from normal life for both men and women. One is a thermal-style stone massage, which uses individually collected smooth, steamed lava stones, covered with rich almond oils. This procedure increases circulation while releasing congestion and tension, according to Limperis. There's also ear coning, where a cone-like candle is inserted into the ear, then lit. As the candle burns, it draws the wax and pollen from the ear. Asian ear coning is ideal for allergy sufferers, said Limperis.

Prices depend on the service. A 75-minute pedicure will cost you $55. An hour-long Swedish massage runs $70.
